No black boxes. Every number on Toraffic.ca traces back to an open, published source. This is the map of it all: where the data comes from, the raw datasets you can browse and download, and the analysis we build on top of them.
Where the data comes from
City of Toronto Open Data Portal
The engine behind our road restrictions, CaféTO patios, cycling network, traffic signals, intersection and midblock counts, and ward boundaries. Datasets are synced on each source's published cadence (road restrictions every ~30 minutes; counts weekly).
Routing engine (OSRM)
Self-hosted OSRM on the OpenStreetMap Ontario extract (Geofabrik, refreshed weekly). Each route is computed twice (with and without disruption penalties), and the delta is attributed per source.

Impact Score
A derived 0 to 100 estimate per ~200 m grid tile, blending active restrictions, CaféTO curb-lane patios, movement counts, and signal density. An estimate, not measured.

The analysis we've conducted
What we build from those datasets: impact scoring, cross-dataset views, and scenario modelling. All of it estimated and labelled as such, never presented as measured truth.

Search any street, rank the most-disrupted streets, and drill into a neighbourhood.
Impact areas
A live 0 to 100 score per ~200 m area, blending restrictions, patios, counts, and signals.
Restrictions timeline
Every active closure on a Gantt chart, sorted hardest first, five years each way.
Transit megaprojects
Metrolinx and TTC work grouped into the projects driving it, with a balanced modal ledger.
Cycling impact
The measured cycling network and ridership, plus a bike-lane-removal scenario.
Historical archives
Decades of intersection turning-movement counts (1984 to present) and midblock speed/volume counts (1989 to present), refreshed monthly. Each location's detail page renders a time-series of the available studies. Aggregated at the study level; the City does not publish raw bucket-level history.
